ABOUT STAR TREK: UNCHARTED COURSE
Hi there!
I’m Lee, the creator of Star Trek: Uncharted Course and your Game Director.
I have been a Star Trek fan for as long as I can remember, beginning with The Next Generation. Although I had always enjoyed science fiction, what drew me most strongly to Star Trek was that its best stories were never really about the technology. They were about the people.
The ship was the setting, but the characters were the heart of it.
I loved watching officers with different personalities, backgrounds and beliefs work together, disagree, grow and face the unknown as a crew. Like many fans, I often imagined what it would be like to stand on the bridge of the Enterprise and become part of a story like that myself.
Over the years, I have taken part in several Star Trek simulations. I enjoyed many of them, but none quite captured the level of immersion I had always hoped for. I wanted something that could genuinely make players feel as though they were serving aboard a starship together, making decisions in the moment and building a continuing story that mattered.
So, I decided to create one.
My hope is that Star Trek: Uncharted Course becomes a place where you can enjoy memorable adventures, develop a character you genuinely care about, make new friends and help lead the USS Navigator into the unknown.
Why Uncharted Course Exists
Star Trek: Uncharted Course has been designed as a focused, one-ship experience.
Rather than placing players across a large fleet of loosely connected vessels, the project centres on a single continuing crew aboard the USS Navigator. The same characters will serve together, face the consequences of their decisions and build relationships over time.
The aim is to create the feeling of a continuing Star Trek television series.
There will be mysteries, discoveries, diplomatic encounters, dangerous phenomena and moments of crisis. There will also be quieter stories about friendship, disagreement, ambition, grief, trust and life aboard the ship.
The live missions provide the immediacy of being present when events unfold. Personal logs and collaborative stories then allow us to explore what those events mean to the characters afterwards.
The Navigator is an extraordinary vessel, but she is still only the setting.
The crew is the story.
What I Hope We Create Together
I want Uncharted Course to become a welcoming and creative community built around a shared love of Star Trek and collaborative storytelling.
The best roleplaying experiences are not created by one person alone. They emerge when players listen to one another, build on each other’s ideas and allow every character the opportunity to contribute.
My role as Game Director is to present the situations, portray the wider universe and help guide the pace of the story. The direction the mission ultimately takes will depend upon the decisions made by the crew.
I hope we create stories that surprise us.
I hope characters form friendships we never planned, disagree in ways that feel honest and change because of the things they experience.
Most of all, I hope that players look forward to returning to the Navigator each week because it feels like a ship and a crew they genuinely belong to.
The Kind of Star Trek We Are Creating
The universe of Uncharted Course has endured war, catastrophe and uncertainty, but this is not intended to be a cynical version of Star Trek.
The crew may face difficult decisions. Their choices may have consequences. Not every first contact will go well, and not every mystery will have a comfortable answer.
Even so, the project remains grounded in the belief that curiosity, cooperation and compassion matter.
The USS Navigator has not been sent into deep space simply to defend Federation territory or seek out enemies. She has been sent to explore, to understand and to discover what Starfleet can become after everything it has endured.
That sense of hope should remain at the centre of our stories.
What I Ask from Players
You do not need to be an expert writer, a Star Trek encyclopaedia or an experienced roleplayer to take part.
You only need to arrive with a willingness to contribute, collaborate and learn.
I ask that every player:
- treats other members of the community with respect;
- communicates when they need help or cannot attend;
- shares the spotlight rather than trying to dominate every scene;
- respects the ownership of other players’ characters;
- supports the decisions of the Game Director during live play;
- and contributes to the kind of welcoming environment they would hope to join themselves.
Creative disagreements can be useful. Personal conflict between players is not.
Characters may argue, compete and make mistakes. The people writing them should remain supportive of one another.
Real life will always come first. All I ask is that you communicate openly so that missions can be planned fairly around the people who are able to attend.
Your Character Matters
Every principal character aboard the Navigator should feel important.
That does not mean every officer will be at the centre of every mission. Some episodes will naturally focus on Science, while others may place Engineering, Medical, Security or Command under greater pressure.
Across the wider story, however, every character should have opportunities to make decisions, build relationships and influence the direction of the ship.
You are not simply filling an empty position on a crew list.
You are creating one of the continuing characters whose actions will become part of the official history of the USS Navigator.
Bring your own ideas, ambitions and perspective to the role. Allow your character room to fail, learn and change.
Perfect officers are rarely the most interesting ones.
A Shared Story
Although I will prepare the missions and guide the live sessions, Uncharted Course is not a story that belongs only to me.
It belongs to everyone who contributes to it.
The choices made during live missions, the friendships formed between characters and the stories written between sessions will gradually shape a history that none of us could create alone.
That is the experience I have always wanted from a Star Trek simulation: not simply reading someone else’s adventure, but helping to build one together.
One Final Welcome
Thank you for taking the time to visit Star Trek: Uncharted Course.
Whether you join the crew, follow the published missions or simply explore the project, I hope you find something here that captures the same sense of possibility Star Trek has always given me.
The USS Navigator is waiting.
Her course has not yet been charted.
I hope you will help us discover where it leads.
Welcome aboard.
