YOUR PLACE ABOARD THE USS NAVIGATOR
The USS Navigator is preparing to begin a new era of exploration, and her story will be shaped by the officers who serve aboard her.
Star Trek: Uncharted Course is a live, text-based roleplaying experience built around one continuing crew. Players take part in scheduled missions on Discord, write personal logs and collaborative stories, and help create a permanent record of the Navigator’s journey.
You do not need previous roleplaying experience or an encyclopaedic knowledge of Star Trek to join. We are looking for friendly, reliable and imaginative people who enjoy character-driven storytelling and working as part of a team.
Before submitting an application, please take a little time to understand how the project works, explore the available crew positions and consider the kind of character you would like to bring aboard.
WHAT JOINING INVOLVES
Joining Star Trek: Uncharted Course means becoming part of a continuing crew rather than taking part in a single isolated game. Your character will serve aboard the USS Navigator, participate in live missions and develop through the relationships, decisions and consequences that follow.
Players are expected to take part in scheduled live missions where possible, communicate when they are unavailable and contribute to the wider story through personal logs or collaborative writing when appropriate.
You will not be expected to appear in every scene or write constantly between missions. The aim is to contribute reliably, support the other players and help create a shared story in which every character has room to matter.
Every player controls their own character, while the Game Director presents the wider universe and guides the mission. Cooperation, communication and respect are therefore just as important as creativity.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for players who are friendly, dependable and willing to work as part of a team. You do not need to be an experienced writer or roleplayer, but you should be open to learning, contributing and supporting the ideas of others.
The strongest players are those who share the spotlight, respect the choices of other writers and understand that good roleplaying is about building scenes together rather than trying to “win” them.
Most importantly, we want people who will help make Uncharted Course a welcoming and enjoyable place to spend time. Characters may disagree, fail or come into conflict, but the players behind them should always treat one another with patience and respect.
BEFORE YOU APPLY
Before applying, please read the How Missions Work page, review the current Crew Manifest and make sure you understand the expectations of live participation, collaborative writing and respectful community conduct.
Think carefully about which available position suits the kind of character you want to play. A department should give your character opportunities to contribute during missions, but their personality, background and relationships will be just as important as their job title.
You should also consider whether you can attend missions regularly and communicate when real-life commitments prevent you from taking part. Perfect attendance is not expected, but reliability and advance notice help the Game Director plan fairly for the whole crew.
THE JOINING PROCESS
1. Explore the Available Positions
Visit the Crew page and review the positions currently marked as vacant. Consider which role best matches your interests, preferred style of play and character concept.
2. Create Your Character Concept
Decide who your character is beyond their rank and position. Think about their species, background, Starfleet experience, personality, strengths, flaws and reasons for joining the USS Navigator.
3. Submit Your Application
Complete the application form with your preferred position, availability, roleplaying experience and initial character concept. You do not need to submit a fully finished biography at this stage.
4. Application Review
The Game Director will review your application and may contact you to discuss the character, position or any details that need clarification. This is a collaborative process intended to make sure the character fits both the role and the wider crew.
5. Finalise Your Character
Once your application has been accepted, you will work with the Game Director to complete your character biography, service record, personnel profile and any other details needed before joining the active crew.
6. Join the Crew
After your character has been approved, you will be welcomed into the project Discord, introduced to the other players and given the information needed to prepare for your first live mission aboard the USS Navigator.
READY TO APPLY?
If you have read through the joining information, explored the available positions and have an idea for the character you would like to create, you are ready to take the next step.
